My name is Terri L. Theys. I am a wife and a mom and a Speech and Drama Specialist and have 10 years of teaching experience within the industry. I have worked in many schools around Cape Town, taught thousands of kids, and have had the honour of witnessing the diversity in education. And have realised that no matter where our kids come from, one thing is true; if a child feels safe and secure in their space you create an opportunity for them to thrive. That the universal language of Love, as cliche as it may sound, is always the right approach.
I have always been passionate about the performing arts and found myself involved in school plays, eisteddfods, acting festivals, and church plays from a very young age. This led to me taking Drama as a subject in high school and it was really the one place where I felt comfortable being myself and unjudged. My teacher became my mentor and had a great influence on choosing the path I did. After high school, I went on to do my Performance certificate with LAMDA ( The London of Academy of Dramatic Arts), but while doing that realised a passion for teaching. I then went on to do my qualifications in Teaching with Trinity College London, which is recognised in South Africa as an Advanced Diploma in Education and is equivalent to an NQF 7. It also means that I can train other individuals who would like to attain such qualifications, both kids and adults.
I have done an array of skills training and freelance work over the last ten years, all within the Drama spectrum. To keep moving forward, the learning must never stop! I’ve always seen myself as multi-faceted and have had a dream for 10 years to run my own Drama School, in a way that is fresh, non-traditional, and relevant to the modern-day child!
I am excited about the future, and believe that dreams do come TRUE!
